New Years Eve on Koh Phuket

NYE!

NYE!

Thailand has a reputation for beach parties and at this time of year they’re very common. The much anticipated night of new years is always a great night out with friends, but i find you have to know the right places to go to avoid the wrong crowds.

The whole island is swarmed with the show of lights from 9pm to the countdown. We spent the last few hours of 2013 in Kata; it was heaving with people but the atmosphere was a new years experience. On beach setting off fire lanterns, watching them get swept into the nights sky, or enjoying my friends company at the Kata Surf House, it was a time full of laughter, joy and vodka.

2014 definitely did come along with a bang. Standing on the beach with a 360 degree view of fireworks coming from everywhere lasting over 15 minutes, we were in awe, it was incredible. This night a few friends and i also lost our ‘night out in Patong virginity’. It was crazy, full of people from all over the world, all sharing this night together. Many of the clubs had ridiculous cover charges (around 1000 tbh) so we settled on an Irish pub with a live band; a great way to groove on into our wonderful year ahead!
