For the love of the ocean
At 3 months old, as soon as i had my injections, my parents took me to Sentosa Island to swim in the ocean. They blew in my face so i would take a breath and they would dunk me underwater; this was where it all started. Having grown up in the tropics, from a very young age i was swimming by myself and would spend all day everyday in the pool and every chance for a holiday i would be in the ocean. I swam with my first wild shark on my dads back when i was about 4 years old and from then i’ve been hooked. Going through old school books, dad recently found a drawing i made when i was about 6 years old; the picture was of me on the bottom of the ocean saying i wanted to live on the bottom of the ocean.
This was the time before i even knew diving existed. When i got the opportunity in Koh Lanta to get my open water certification i jumped at the idea. There was an English lady who owned the dive shop, and i turned to my parents and said i want to own my own dive business just like her on a tropical island. So then i did a business degree to learn the office side, then its was on to ‘living the life’ as an instructor.
Diving takes me to my happy place. The one place in the world where i can not think of anything else besides my divers and the underwater realm. I have a strong passion for this world so i knew i had to make it my office. Teaching and sharing experiences is another strong passion of mine so when i put two and two together; i knew i wanted to introduce and teach people all about our fairly undiscovered paradise.
People always ask me when the visability, current and other weather conditions are like or even how many ‘big’ things did i see underwater, but for me its not about all of this, its about being underwater and enjoying our amazing underwater realm – it takes me to my happy place.
