Getting around the Philippines

If your travelling to The Philippines, the exotic beaches on many of the islands are a must see. But if your wondering how to get around The Philippines; here is my suggestions! (as well as some suggestions for travelling by road)

  1. Boat – If you have more time in The Philippines a cheaper way to island hope if by boat. There are many boat operators running between the islands. If they are shorter trips you can easily catch a Bunga Boat. I caught one from El Nido to Coron for around 7 hours otherwise check out the company 2GO who do overnight boats between the larger islands. I caught one from Coron to Manila, and it really wasn’t that bad. For just under P2000 the boat had a very basic air-condition bed but more importantly a bar on the top deck of course playing karaoke. These boats run all over the country so if your looking to get to Cebu or Boracay, check out their website.
  2. Fly – A more expensive way to travel, however if you don’t have as much time this might be ideal for you. There are airports located on Coron, El Nido, Cebu, Boracay and many of the other islands. Reminder; if your diving make sure you leave enough time before your flight. (I always leave 24 hours but it depends on the number of dives)
  3. Bus – This isn’t exactly between islands but a cheap way to travel around the Philippines. If you land at a nearby airport, it is often a bus that will get you to the island or ferry terminal you need. (Eg. You can easily catch a bus from Puerto Princesa to El Nido) Around many of the larger islands (Eg. Luzon) a bus is the easiest and cheapest way to travel. If your planning of visiting Sagada or Banaue there are overnight busses from Manila to your destination for around p450.
  4. Jeepney – These are more local forms of transport; a must do when you travel to the country. A jeepney around the city will cost between p8-10 for a ride. They do also operate further afield for around p50 when out of the city. They are multi-coloured, modified 4WDs with an open back and roof top so people can jump on an off as they please; also a lot of fun!
  5. Tricycle – For the short journeys, they are easy ways to get around cities very cheaply.
  6. Taxi – Last resort but often used a lot especially in Manila!
