Diving in Cyprus

Zenobia

I have different recommendations for diving around Ayia Napa depending on your certification  and experience level. This is the Mediterranean, unfortunately most fish have been fished out due to no protected marine areas anywhere. However, if you are looking at doing an open water or advanced course, it is the ideal place to learn as there and low currents, great visibility (most of the time) and easy access to the sites.

Cape Greko, is where most divers go from Ayia Napa or Protaras. There are about 5 very different sites ranging in depth from 10m to tec diving of 50+m. Diving from Cape Greko is about the whole experience, not just the dive so this also includes the 4w driving to access the sites and exiting out the water through a ‘toilet bowl’ at cape akward. Green Bay is 10-12m, a very easy dive, normally with great visibility, ‘fish rock’ and statues to play with. Cape Akward is down a cliff, 30+ with lots of boulders and sea grass. Caves (more like caverns) is a very weather dependable dive, but there are 3 caves/swim throughs fully lit but are still a fun dive to just relax underwater.

The Zenobia Wreck off the coast of Larnaca, is a definite must see for any advanced+ divers. It is a Swedish ship that sunk over 30 years ago, and now sits between 20-42m. As the wreck is so big, it needs to be explored in 2 or more dives. The first dive is a general explore around the outside and on the second one divers can do 3 penetrations; through the captains wheel house, the galley and crew sleeping area.
